In this image, i can see a human-like figure; it's like as if they're sitting down because they have their hands making contact during a cross-armed position but you cannot really see that much happening . We all know they're human by the arms, they appear like they're made up of flesh and bone but if you are taking a look at the face, it's distorted. The nose looks quite human, but you cannot see the remainder of their body, it's as if they're in a disguise or almost-invisible. During this picture, it looks as if they're sitting down because there is a chair, therefore the figure's head is levitating above it. I see a face which is disfigured- you can faintly see their eyes and lips. Around the countenance, there are wriggled and curled lines which come across as being digitally drawn and edited after the photograph was made. In this photo, although the lines look messy, it does still try hide the face of the disguised male/female but also still does show us some facial features. I find this image very sharp and clear, it gives the impression of the lighting being bright therefore, the photographer, Lucas Blalock, could possibly be employing a ring-light to take the snapshot. The way this picture was taken, was in portrait mode. Taking photos in this mode, means the camera will automatically uses an oversized aperture to keep the background out of focus so the subject being photographed is the only thing in focus. Lucas Blalock created this image with a digital camera, as most photographers prefer digital cameras because they store more images in a memory card. Also, you can edit your images directly on the camera or on a computer with photo-editing software, just like how the artist has done. The picture the photographer has created, is giving me mixed emotions. Lucas clearly wants our eyes glued to the disguised figure. To my way of thinking, i am under the impression that the theme of this sculpture is mystery. There's not much in this photo to tell us more, other than a man without a body which is sort of creepy, but peculiar. It almost tricks your mind into seeing something else. At first, i thought this photo was just arms, and a drawn on face, but now i think there is way more to it. This image was designed to confuse us, or was published by the artist to make a particular picture in our head; an image of bewilderment and curiosity. After seeing this picture, we are raised with questions, etc; What's the purpose of this? What's going on in the photo? Who's the person in the image? Why are they disfigured?. In my opinion, it makes me feel uncomfortable but interested, in a good way. After watching the video and doing my research on the creator, I have now understood why the image is called a 'photoshop fail'. Once the photo was taken and it was getting edited, the mistake of the photoshop is what made the publisher publish it. The reviews online state that most people found it bizarre and unexpected, this is what boosted its popularity. Finally, this masterpiece relates to disguise because the creature in pic, has hidden their identity to trick the audience. It is mystifying.
My recreation
After researching about Lucas Blalock, i am inspired to take photos similar to his, or maybe try to recreate them. My friend, Azize, will be getting experimented on. I will take pictures of her posing and then afterwards i would photoshop her face and half of her body out the photo. It will look odd, but hopefully it would look at good as the above.
My images:
These pictures took some time catching, we went into the Studio and utilised numerous assets. Initially, Azize and I got our cameras and props. I brought a navy blue dress and a navy blue scarf with white dots. I folded it over her and applied the dress onto her, and it looked extremely brilliant. Then, at that point, we went into the studio and changed the lighting, we needed to take the pictures in obscurity yet the camera quality was grainy and bad, so we turned on the light and furthermore a splendid light, so her highlights are truly apparent. After, I added a green-screen behind her so that later, I would relocate a foundation so the picture doesn't look excessively off-filter, having a white screen in the back makes the photograph exhausting, however adding a straightforward scenery would make the photograph really intriguing. I took the pictures and now it's time to edit them, once they're edited i will upload my final piece.
